This structure was built in 1935 and currently houses the Central Administration offices of the Russellville school system. During our high school years this was the "hub" of activity. The main floor area served both as a study hall and an auditorium with raised stage. This stage was used for all phases of our education, including class plays, anxious presentations to curious 7th graders about sex education, musical performances by the band, and our Kindergarten and Eighth Grade graduations. The stage was flanked by two small classrooms. The basement housed the library, the cafeteria, a home ec lab, and a chemistry-physics lab that was constructed in 1956. We were all required to spend daily time in the study hall, presumably to study. Our big hit Senior class play, "Headin' for a Weddin" was performed on stage on November 22, 1957. This photo of the Auditorium Building appeared in our 1958 Panther yearbook. The layout drawing of the building as it was in 1958 shows the Study Hall, Stage and two classrooms on the main floor, along with the basement layout. |
